Charli XCX Responds to Criticism of Her Brat Album Artwork

As a millennial, I was overexposed to neon tinted green at the height of the Y2K era. Ahead of the album’s release date last month, a brat wall was quietly erected overnight in Brooklyn. During its two-month-long run, which included five paint jobs, hundreds of fans made the pilgrimage to the Williamsburg-Greenpoint border to pay their respects to the unofficial landmark. A few case studies have already been published about the business of brat, praising how the campaign rollout became a “brand energy marketing” sensation.

Taking to her private Instagram account, Charli described Brat as intentionally provocative in design. Its cover was meant to be very provocative, featuring a lot of text. She wrote, “The artwork for Brat will be obnoxious, arrogant, and bold. Some people will hate it. [The cover] will be heavily text-based, either font on a plain background or painted on a wall or disregarded object.” When I first saw the cover art for Charli XCX’s Brat, I was repulsed. And then I realized that the ugliness was part of its bizarre appeal.

You’re as stubborn and ambitious as any other Earth sign, but sometimes superficial markers of success can feel small to you. Your “career feels so small, in the existential scheme of it all.” You’re chasing a smiling-on-your-death-bed sense of satisfaction from your life pursuits; external assurances of your value simply can’t sate your craving for meaning. Around the halfway mark, this song starts sounding like the absolutely sublime backing track of, like, Level 17 in some ’90s video game — which is the pinnacle of musical achievement as far as I’m concerned. It’s something to play on repeat at the gym, if you’re into working out, or blast at the club if you’re more into gyrating under strobe lights.

And of Andrew McCarthy, one of the New York–based actors in St. Elmo’s Fire, a co-star says, “He plays all his roles with too much of the same intensity. I don’t think he’ll make it.” The Brat Packers save their praise for themselves. The Brats will be coming to New York this month to promote St. Elmo’s Fire, which all of them seem rather obsessed with.

A girl named Alice straightened her long, white T-shirt over her blue skirt, brushed her jet-black bangs away from her eyes, patted her hips with her hands, and walked slowly to the table. She went to the handsomest of the group, the boy with the firmest chin and the darkest sunglasses. She knew that he was Rob Lowe and that he had been in The Hotel New Hampshire, and she probably also knew that he was involved with an actress named Melissa Gilbert, but from the open, white-toothed smile he gave her as she walked over, she felt confident. Nobody Wants This actress Kristen Bell, who shares daughters Lincoln and Delta with husband Dax Shepard, celebrated the Armchair Expert host’s 50th birthday with adorable pictures of their kids. “There were zero hesitations in continuing the story,” says ID president Jason Sarlanis of the ‘Final Chapter’ episodes, streaming Jan. 6-7.

“You need to understand my vision. This is global. I will provide momentum and tell the story in a laser-focused way”. Charli first announced her sixth studio album in February, and dropped Brat in June. Upon its release, Brat became the highest-charting album of her career, debuting at No. 3 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart and No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart behind Taylor Swift‘s The Tortured Poets Department. Bratwursts are traditionally served on brat buns or hot dog buns. Here are some options for how to top your bratwurst sandwiches and sides to serve with bratwurst that will enhance and compliment the flavors of the brats. Sure, Mercedes “MJ” Javid’s time on The Traitors predated Brat the album.

Lime green is still very much having a moment, and you can thank Charli XCX’s hit album, “Brat,” for that. Donald Trump took the stage at his campaign watch party in West Palm Beach, Florida, and was met with loud cheers. The president addressed Americans from the White House for the first time since Donald Trump’s election victory.

He also had Crips and Bloods shaking hands and dancing together on stage, which should be proof of the restorative power of Kendrick Lamar’s music. At the 2024 GRAMMYs, Luke Combs and Tracy Chapman took the stage to deliver an emotional duet of Chapman’s hit “Fast Car,” which Combs covered in 2023. Recently, Combs’ cover won the CMA Award for Song of the Year, also earning Chapman the honor of being the first Black artist to win the award in CMA history.

“Let’s go.” So Estevez and Nelson and the Playmate and McInerney paid the check and left. It was almost midnight on a boys’ night out, and Judd Nelson and Emilio Estevez were still looking for some fun. So Estevez summoned a young writer he’d always wanted to meet, Jay McInerney—the author of a book, Bright Lights, Big City, that he’d once wanted to option and turn into a screenplay. It was 1984’s trendiest novel, and McInerney was staying at one of Los Angeles’s trendiest hotels, the Chateau Marmont, revising the first draft of the screenplay of his book. Coincidentally, the man set to direct the film version of the book is Joel Schumacher—the director of St. Elmo’s Fire. Tom Cruise grew up in the East, away from the world of Hollywood; still, he found he didn’t need much training to succeed.
